Guardian Ad Litem

GUARDIAN AD LITEM - Lat. "guardian at law." The person appointed by the court to look out for the best interests of the child during the course of legal proceedings.

A guardian ad litem (GAL) represents the interests of children in domestic relations actions. The guardian will investigate the situations of all parties, and will make recommendations to the court based upon the child’s best interests.
